Advice you can plan on
Taking control over your financial future with a Self Managed Super Fund (SMSF) is an attractive prospect for many, however it is not for everyone. It can be time consuming to administer and complex to meet reporting and auditing requirements. Seeking professional help with a SMSF is a worthy investment in your future.
From July 1st 2016, ASIC requires accountants to hold an Australian Financial Services (AFS) license to provide personal advice on Self Managed Super Funds (SMSF). Unlicensed accountants can still provide very basic administration services and factual information to SMSF trustees, however accountants must be either licensed or be an authorised representative of an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL).
May McGarva is authorised by Merit Wealth Pty Ltd (AFSL 409361) to provide advice for members and trustees regarding making contributions, pension payments, salary sacrifice arrangements, transition to retirement strategies and combined with a Financial Planner, looking at whether setting up an SMSF is right for you. A SMSF is not a one-size-fits-all strategy. They are great for the right people and for the right purpose. They are a valuable tool from both a tax planning point of view and long-term wealth development, but the costs and complexity associated with them means that they aren’t suitable for every situation.
Our specialist SMSF team of May McGarva, Marjo Proos and Amanda Kelly are here to guide you through these legislation changes. They are also here to help and advise you in all things Super.
